Bernie Sanders’ 1988 C-Span Interview Demonstrates the Consistency of his Views
Bernie Sanders, as the Socialist Mayor of Burlington Vermont appeared on C-SPAN in 1988 to answer host and audience questions about his concerns as a mayor in the 1988 presidential elections.
Mayor Sanders argued that neither of the political parties were responsive to the people and that individuals with money dominated the political process.
What’s interesting about this interview is that everything that is discussed is still going on today, but just MUCH worse.
For example, he mentions how egregious it is that the top 1% own 50% of the wealth in 1988….of course, now the 1% owns 99%.
Some classic Bernie Quotes from this interview:
“In our nation today we have an extreme disparity between the rich and the poor that elections are bought and sold and controlled by people who have huge sums of money.”
“We need some radical changes in this country so that every American can have the opportunity to have a decent standard of living and live a decent life.”
The hair is a little bit different, but Bernie’s message is still the same today.
